Volunteer with Surfrider
We are always looking for volunteers from all walks of life for various volunteer roles.
We are always looking for passionate individuals to join us in protecting our oceans, waves, and beaches!
As a Surfrider Foundation South Vancouver Island volunteer, you will be supported by an amazing crew of volunteers in your community and be part of the globally recognized Surfrider Foundation.
Current Volunteer Opportunities
Treasurer
The Treasurer oversees the chapter’s finances, tracks income and expenses, supports budgeting and reporting, and helps ensure funds are managed responsibly to support our programs and campaigns.
Co-Chair
The Chairperson is responsible for co-leading the chapter alongside the EC, making high-level strategy decisions, and supporting the chapter’s direction. This Chair collaborates with other Executive Committee members, provides guidance to program leads, coordinates and establishes partnerships with stakeholder organizations.
MEMBERSHIP SUPPORT
We’re looking for someone in Victoria to join our team to support the Surfrider Canada membership program, including packaging and mailing membership packages. This role involves coming to the Surfrider office in Victoria, and has many perks, from free merch, to events, and joining a network of volunteers that are dedicated to ocean and coastal protection!
Communications Team Member
An Communications Team Member is responsible for assisting in implementing the chapter’s external communication’s plan, including for the website, social media, blogs and PR efforts. This lead will work with the graphic designer and other volunteers to execute elements of the plan.
Fundraising Lead
The Fundraising Lead supports with the financial wellbeing of the chapter, without funding, it is impossible for a chapter to do the work it was created for. The Fundraising lead will help with gathering donation items, sourcing and applying for grants, and providing activities for members of the community to donate to the chapter.
Beach clean coordinator(s)
The Beach Clean Coordinators organize and execute the chapter’s monthly local and remote beach cleanups. This includes setting up the cleanup event, collecting data on marine debris and litter collected, as well as talking to and assisting attendees.
Co-volunteer coordinator
The Co-Volunteer Coordinator supports the recruitment, coordination, and engagement of volunteers, helping ensure volunteers are welcomed, informed, and connected to the chapter’s work.
CAMPAIGN VOLUNTEERs
We’re looking for folks to support the Surfrider South Vancouver Island’s campaign efforts. These volunteers will support on-the-ground campaign tactics and communications! If you’re looking to directly support coastal and ocean advocacy, this role is for you!
Events Lead/Team Members
An Events Lead/Team Member will help assist in supporting, organizing, and leading public events for Surfrider South Vancouver Island. These volunteers can work on the behind the scenes details and/or be the event lead day of the event.
GENERAL VOLUNTEERS
We’re always looking for content creators (bloggers, photographers, graphic designers, for example), event planners, environmental experts, youth workers, campaigners and others (as well as all of the valuable volunteers who just want to come out to a beach clean and contribute to protecting what we love!).
